KMI Back on
Track
After
starting the season over after the first four
races, Matt Kurzejewski and the team is back on
track after Adirondack and Lime Rock. The August
1st race at Adirondack was used primarily to get
Matt and the new team acquainted with each other,
on and off the track. Although the finishing
result didn’t show it, the team viewed the
weekend as a success and the car and driver came
home in one piece.
Lime
Rock was another great race for the team and a
great confidence booster for the team and driver.
Matt qualified the car 16th, but a spin on the
final lap of qualifying caused damage to the brake
duct system. After making repairs, Matt was forced
to start at the back of the field for the
beginning of the race. While running in the 9th
position in the first half of the race and
maneuvering through the field, Matt suffered a
flat left front tire. This put the Extreme
Insulation Ford Fusion down 2 laps due to the
damage sustained. Once the car was fixed and back
underway, Matt was running consistent times that
were comparable to the leaders. With about 20 laps
to go, damage sustained from the flat tire caused
a power steering failure. A third incident took
place with less than 10 laps to go when Matt
clipped the spun car of Matt Kobyluck. After
visiting pit road to remove sheet metal rubbing on
the tire, Kurzejewski managed to bring the car
home in one piece with a 14th place finish. From
the time the car was unloaded from the trailer to
the end of the race, Matt was able to pick up his
lap times by 4 seconds. Considering all the
incidents of the weekend, everyone was quite happy
with the finish.
With
the previous 7 races in the past and Loudon and
Dover ahead, the team is preparing for the best
finishes of the remaining Camping World East
schedule. After the CWE series schedule is
complete, there are talks in the rumor mill that
KMI and Matt Kurzejewski will possibly run the
remainder of the ARCA schedule for 2009.
